Winery Background

The Angove family has been making wine in South Australia since 1886 and remains one of the country’s leading family-owned producers. With vineyards in McLaren Vale and the Riverland, Angove focuses strongly on certified organic farming and sustainable practices. The Wild Olive range is a showcase of this philosophy, highlighting pure, chemical-free fruit and a hands-on approach to winemaking.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

This Shiraz comes from Angove’s certified organic vineyards across McLaren Vale, where Mediterranean influences and varied soils produce grapes with natural concentration and balance. The 2021 season was one of the region’s standouts, offering mild days, cool nights and an even ripening period. These conditions allowed excellent colour development and flavour intensity while retaining fresh acidity.

Winemaking

Organic fruit was harvested in the cool of night to preserve aromatics and gently crushed before fermentation in small, temperature-controlled batches. Regular pump-overs were used to extract colour, tannin and flavour. The wine was matured in a mix of seasoned French and American oak to add subtle spice and structure while keeping the vibrant fruit at the forefront. It is vegan friendly and certified organic, made without synthetic chemicals from vineyard to bottle.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Deep purple with a vibrant crimson edge.
Aroma: Lifted scents of blackberry, dark cherry and plum layered with hints of violet, cracked pepper and subtle smoky spice.
Palate: Rich and full-bodied, delivering dark berry fruit, blackcurrant and a touch of cocoa wrapped in smooth, velvety tannins. The oak influence adds gentle savoury complexity without overpowering the fruit.
Finish: Long and satisfying with lingering dark fruit and spice.

Food Pairing

Perfect with slow-roasted lamb, beef fillet, hearty mushroom dishes or mature cheeses. Its depth and balance also make it an excellent partner for chargrilled vegetables or robust Mediterranean fare.
