Winery Background
Aphelion is celebrated for its dedication to Grenache, often regarded as the jewel of McLaren Vale. The Welkin series is crafted to highlight purity of fruit and elegance, with Grenache sitting at the very core of the Aphelion philosophy.

Region & Vintage
McLaren Vale’s old bush-vine Grenache plantings thrive in sandy and ironstone-rich soils, yielding intensely flavoured fruit. The 2025 vintage delivered moderate yields and a mild, extended ripening season, resulting in Grenache with vibrant aromatics, refined tannins, and excellent natural balance.

Winemaking
Small parcels were hand-harvested and partially fermented with whole bunches to build complexity and spice. Gentle extraction and minimal intervention focused on preserving varietal character. Maturation in seasoned French oak puncheons and ceramic eggs allowed texture and fine tannin integration without overshadowing the fruit’s vibrancy.

Tasting Notes
Bright garnet in colour. Aromas of red cherry, raspberry, rose petals, and a hint of white pepper leap from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied and energetic, showing a core of juicy red fruits layered with spice, earth, and subtle savoury undertones. Silky tannins and lively acidity carry through to a long, graceful finish.

Food Pairing
Perfect with charcuterie, roasted duck, lamb with rosemary, or Mediterranean dishes such as ratatouille or paella.
