Region & Vintage
McLaren Vale’s warm Mediterranean climate, tempered by cooling sea breezes, is perfectly suited to robust, savoury varietals like Sagrantino and Mataro. The 2020 vintage was warm and dry, producing fruit of exceptional intensity, with naturally firm tannins and deep, concentrated flavours.

Winemaking
Sagrantino and Mataro were fermented separately in small batches with gentle handling to preserve fruit purity. Partial whole-bunch fermentation lifted aromatics and spice, while maturation in seasoned French oak softened tannins and layered complexity without dominating the fruit.

Tasting Notes
Deep crimson in colour. Aromas of blackberry, dark plum, and cherry are woven with dried herbs, earthy spice, and savoury notes. The palate is bold yet balanced, offering dark fruit richness framed by Sagrantino’s hallmark tannins and Mataro’s savoury depth. A long, structured finish leaves an impression of spice, earth, and elegance.

Excellent with slow-braised lamb, osso buco, rich game dishes, or aged hard cheeses.
