Founded in 1866, Audrey Wilkinson is an iconic Hunter Valley winery celebrated for combining traditional craftsmanship with innovative winemaking. While the Hunter is best known for Semillon and Shiraz, their small-batch Tempranillo shows the versatility of the region and the winery’s adventurous spirit.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

The 2023 growing season brought mild temperatures and well-timed rain, encouraging even ripening and vibrant acidity. Tempranillo, planted in select vineyard blocks with free-draining soils, thrived under these conditions, producing fruit with excellent colour, fine tannins, and lifted aromatics.

Winemaking Process

The hand-harvested fruit was destemmed and fermented in small open fermenters with gentle plunging to preserve delicate aromatics while extracting fine tannins. The wine matured for 10 months in seasoned French oak hogsheads to enhance complexity without overpowering the bright fruit.

Tasting Notes

Vivid ruby red. Aromas of red cherry, raspberry, and dried herbs, underpinned by hints of spice and earthy notes. The palate is medium-bodied, juicy, and fresh, with flavours of red berries, savoury spice, and supple tannins leading to a clean, moreish finish.

Perfect with Spanish tapas, grilled lamb cutlets, chorizo, or roast vegetable paella.
