Product Description
WINERY INFORMATION:
In 1876 the floods in New Zealand’s region of Hawkes Bay turned some rivers into the land. After the floods subsided the Ngaruroro River had changed its course and a vista of gravel was left behind on a latitude of 39.2S in a warm sun-filled valley, greened lightly with spring rains. Some were farmed by the Gimblett family, but by most, it was seen as a useless wasteland, only fit to quarry. So a quarry began….almost until the local vignerons saved the land for wine. The blending of these different parcels combines to create a wine that is truly distinct and appealing. The vines originate from a Heritage clone of Syrah brought to New Zealand approximately 150 years ago. It produces a wine with an aromatic lift of floral and pepper aromatics and a lushness and denseness on the palate combined with fresh and fine natural acidity.
TASTING NOTES:
Inky purple red with a vibrant hue. Aromatically expressive with notes of boysenberry, lavender, sandalwood and freshly cracked pepper. The palate has a lovely round feel of ripe fleshy fruit and an elegant line of fine minerally tannins, finishing dry. Recommended cellaring: 6 - 10 years from vintage. Lamb and venison.
