Winery Information

Nestled on Tasmania’s picturesque east coast, the winery focuses on producing single-site wines that reflect the unique conditions of their vineyards. Dalrymple’s attention to detail and passion for quality are evident in every bottle, making it one of Tasmania’s finest producers of cool-climate wines.
Winemaking
The fruit for this Pinot Noir was hand-picked, with a small percentage of bunches placed directly into open-top fermenters, while the balance was added after being destemmed. Fermentation began and concluded over ten days, with gentle plunging to extract optimal colour and flavour. After fermentation, the wine was pressed and racked into French oak barriques (33% new) where it underwent malolactic fermentation, spending 10 months maturing in barrel to develop its richness and complexity.
Vintage Conditions
The 2021 vintage saw noticeably cooler and slightly wetter conditions compared to the previous four years. The La Niña weather pattern brought easterly flows, resulting in increased moisture from the north-east. Flowering was impacted, leading to a reduced crop and smaller berries. While challenging, this turned out to be a blessing as the smaller crop, combined with the cooler, later season, was ready for harvest in early April before the onset of average autumn rainfall.
Terroir/Provenance/Region
The Swansea vineyard, planted in 1999 with Pinot Noir clone 115, lies on a gentle slope of basalt soil that faces north. This positioning ensures maximum sunlight exposure throughout the growing season, while the proximity to Great Oyster Bay provides a unique microclimate. The vineyard could not be closer to the bay without being underwater at high tide! The warm days and long summer nights result in early ripening and contribute to the richness of the Pinot Noir.
Tasting Notes
This wine presents savoury notes of cocoa, rosemary, and oak spice, with a core of tamarillo and ironstone. On the palate, it’s classic Swansea – soft, plush, and glossy tannins, perfectly balanced with natural fine acidity. Ripe raspberry and cherry provide richness to the mid-palate, while a subtle undertone of Christmas cake spice adds complexity. The finish is long and satisfying.
Awarded 92, 93, and 94 points, this wine is rich, ripe, and ready to be enjoyed, yet it has the structure to age gracefully.
Food Pairing
This Pinot Noir pairs wonderfully with red cabbage braised in a medley of blackberry, blueberry, and boysenberry, served alongside barbeque venison steaks and redcurrant jelly. For a lighter option, enjoy it with a layered beetroot, sweet potato, chard, and celeriac pastie slice, accompanied by spiced tomato sauce.
