Winery Overview

Eldorado Road is a small family-run winery based in the Woolshed Valley near Beechworth in north-east Victoria. They are dedicated to making wines that reflect their unique site and vines, the Comrade Nero D’Avola is a standout that shows their ambition and skill with this Mediterranean variety.

Region & Vintage Conditions

The 2022 vintage offered warm, dry days and cool nights in the region, which helped the Nero D’Avola vines ripen evenly while preserving natural acidity and vibrant flavour.

The fruit comes from the family farm near the village of Eldorado on soils of decomposed red granite buckshot, a rare and special site that mirrors aspects of the grape’s Sicilian roots. 

Winemaking

Winemaker Paul Dahlenburg used six micro-ferments to build complexity, including whole bunch carbonic maceration, open fermenters and basket pressing, before twelve months’ maturation on full lees in seasoned French oak puncheons and barriques.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Deep red with purplish tinge.

Aroma: Bramble, dark cherry, blueberry, wild herbs, liquorice, dark chocolate and woodsy spice — deep, dark and elegantly savoury.

Palate: Medium-to-full bodied with dark berry fruit, refined cherry-pip tannins, savoury complexity and fine structure. Acidity keeps the wine lively.

Finish: Long and satisfying, with lingering dark fruit, spice and a touch of astringency that gives this wine great tension and interest.
