Eldorado Road is a family-run winery based in the village of Eldorado in the Woolshed Valley near Beechworth, Victoria. They are committed to creating wines that reflect the land and variety rather than relying on heavy intervention.

Region & Vintage Conditions

The 2021 vintage for this Durif (also known as Petite Sirah) came in a year of moderate conditions in north-east Victoria, with the cooler site allowing the variety to express both intensity and finesse. Low yields in particular helped concentrate flavour.

This wine is a 50/50 blend from two vineyards: one their home vineyard in Eldorado (cooler site) and one a mature vineyard in Rutherglen (warmer, proven site). The dual sourcing gives the wine both structure and elegance.

Winemaking

The fruit was handled with care and matured to reveal density and depth. The winemaking emphasizes expression of the grape, powerful fruit, refined structure and texture rather than heavy oak and overwrought techniques.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Very deep, dark purple colour in the glass.

Aroma: Intense black fruit character; blueberry, plum, coupled with savoury spice, dark chocolate and hints of herbs.

Palate: Medium-to-full bodied, big yet balanced. Firm ripe tannins over a sweet-fruit core, with dark berry flavour, spice and a sense of freshness despite its weight.

Finish: Long and satisfying, leaving lingering dark-fruit and spice notes with a refined structural edge.
