Product Description
Winery Background
Fowles Wines is a family‑run estate in the granite-strewn Strathbogie Ranges, Victoria. The “Ladies Who Shoot Their Lunch” series reflects their wild‑food inspired approach, with wines vividly aromatic and designed to pair seamlessly with rustic cuisine.
Vineyards and Vintage Conditions
The 2023 Riesling comes from their high‑altitude Upton Run vineyard (around 430‑550 m elevation), planted on ancient granite soils. Cool nights and slow ripening helped develop racy acidity, citrus brightness and deep minerality in the grapes.
Winemaking Process
Fruit was selectively harvested from Block 13.5 in March 2023, lightly crushed, and wild‑fermented in stainless steel or old oak barrels. The wine was bottled under screwcap and includes no oak influence, preserving purity and energy.
Tasting Notes
Vibrant pale straw with aromas of citrus blossom, fresh pear and lemongrass. The palate is bone dry and texturally crisp, showcasing flavours of lemon, lime and nashi pear balanced by a saline mineral edge and bright acidity. Finish is long and cleansing.
Food Pairing
Pairs beautifully with oysters, fresh seafood, goat cheese tarts, or citrus‑dressed salads. Its acidity and texture suit light Asian fare or herb‑infused vegetarian dishes.
Story Behind the Wine
“Ladies Who Shoot Their Lunch” Riesling was made to express the wild provenance of Strathbogie fruit in a direct, energetic style. The 2023 vintage offers varietal clarity, structure and regional minerality in every bottle—bright, unadorned and food-ready.
