Fowles Wines is a family-run estate nestled in the Strathbogie Ranges of Victoria. The “Are You Game?” series is inspired by wild-food culture and focuses on adventurous blends that embrace nuance and terroir-driven character. Each wine is made with intention and thought for food pairing.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon hails from the high-altitude Upton Run vineyard. Hand-harvested in mid-April, this fruit benefited from cool nights and slow maturation, resulting in vibrant, concentrated, cool-climate Cabernet characteristics.

Winemaking Process

After gentle crushing, the wine was wild-fermented in stainless steel to preserve varietal purity. It was then matured in French oak for 12 months for added complexity and structure, and blended with approximately 9% Shiraz to introduce darker berry notes.

Tasting Notes

Deep garnet in the glass, the nose presents plush blackcurrant, layered herbs and a touch of sweet oak. On the palate it is medium-bodied, with juicy dark-fruit flavours, mocha spice and dusty tannins that build toward a tight, structured close.

Food Pairing

Pairs perfectly with grilled red meats such as steak or lamb, herb-roasted chicken, or earthy, layered vegetarian dishes. Its structure and fruit intensity also suit charcuterie or blue cheese.
