Sycamore Vineyard is one of Freemark Abbey's distinguished vineyard sites on the southern end of the Rutherford Bench. Located close to the Mayacamas Mountains, the site produces small, intensely flavoured berries and Cabernet with impressive concentration, texture and tannic structure.

Vintage Conditions

The 2018 vintage delivered excellent growing conditions in Napa Valley, allowing the Cabernet to develop concentrated fruit while retaining freshness and structure. The resulting wine combines depth and richness with the firm tannins and acidity needed for extended ageing.

Winemaking Techniques

The 2018 Sycamore Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. The wine was matured for 27 months in French oak, with approximately 62% new oak, adding layers of spice and toast while allowing the powerful fruit and tannins to integrate.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Deep garnet red

Aroma: Blackcurrant, pomegranate and dark berries with baking spice, forest floor and espresso

Palate: Rich and textured, showing black cherry, dark chocolate and leather alongside firm yet integrated tannins

Finish: Long and mineral-driven, with lingering dark fruit, warm oak spice and subtle savoury notes
