Henschke, one of Australia’s most revered family-owned wineries, has been crafting fine wines for over 150 years across Eden Valley and the Barossa. The Discovery Series highlights varietals and sites that showcase the diversity of these regions. The Stone Jar Tempranillo reflects Henschke’s innovative approach to international varieties planted in the Eden Valley’s cool-climate vineyards.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions
Sourced from sustainably managed Eden Valley vineyards at elevations between 400–500m, the 2022 vintage benefited from a long, cool growing season. Even ripening and mild weather allowed for vibrant fruit development while retaining the variety’s hallmark savoury structure. These conditions produced a standout vintage of elegance and intensity.

Winemaking Process
Hand-harvested fruit was destemmed and fermented in small open-top fermenters with daily hand plunging to extract colour and fine tannins. The wine was then matured in seasoned French oak hogsheads to enhance complexity while preserving varietal character and freshness.

Tasting Notes
Deep crimson-purple in the glass. Aromas of dark cherry, plum, and blackberry intertwine with notes of dried herbs, earth, and subtle spice. The medium-bodied palate shows juicy red and black fruit, savoury elements of leather and cocoa, framed by fine, chalky tannins. Balanced acidity delivers freshness and a long, lingering finish.

Food Pairing
Pairs beautifully with chargrilled lamb, roasted pork, and Spanish-inspired tapas. Complements mushroom risotto, roasted vegetables, and aged Manchego or pecorino cheese.

Cellaring Potential
While vibrant and expressive in youth, this Tempranillo will evolve gracefully over 8–10 years, developing greater savoury complexity with age.
