This Blanc de Blancs from Huia is a traditional method sparkling wine made from organically grown Chardonnay in Marlborough, New Zealand. Crafted with a focus on purity and balance, it offers both richness and freshness, shaped by careful, small-batch winemaking.

Winery

Huia is a Marlborough-based producer built on organic practices and a deep respect for nature, heritage and craftsmanship. Founded in 1994 by Claire and Mike Allan and now led by Tom Pegler, the winery focuses on small-scale, thoughtful winemaking that reflects both place and process.

The name “Huia” comes from the native Huia bird, a revered Māori symbol of honour, balance and connection. This philosophy is reflected in the winery’s approach, where wines are made with care, patience and respect for the land.

Vintage & Vineyard

The 2018 vintage saw cooler flowering conditions, resulting in looser grape bunches and reduced disease pressure. A long, dry summer followed, allowing fruit to ripen cleanly with strong concentration and natural balance.

Fruit was sourced from organically farmed vineyards in the Lower Omaka Valley and Huia’s Home Block in the Central Wairau Valley.

Winemaking

• Hand harvested and whole bunch pressed

• Fermented in neutral French oak barrels

• Aged in cuve before bottling

• Traditional method sparkling

• Bottle aged on lees for 4 years

• Hand riddled prior to disgorgement

This extended lees ageing builds texture and complexity while maintaining freshness and structure.

Aroma: Brioche, peach, crème anglaise, golden grapefruit, toasted hazelnut
Palate: Nectarine, white peach, marzipan, pecan pie, crusty bread and subtle truffle
Finish: Rich yet balanced, with bright acidity and a long, complex finish
