John Duval Wines is a premium family-owned producer in South Australia's Barossa Valley, founded by acclaimed winemaker John Duval. Integro was created to celebrate the traditional Australian Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz blend, using exceptional fruit from old vineyards across Eden Valley and the Barossa.

Vintage Conditions

The 2016 growing season began with low winter and spring rainfall, followed by a hot period in December. Well-timed January rain supported the dry-grown vines, while warm days and slightly cooler nights during ripening helped preserve freshness and balance. Cabernet Sauvignon came from the historic Stonegarden Vineyard in Eden Valley, while the Shiraz was selected from an exceptional Barossa Valley parcel.

Winemaking Techniques

The wine combines 70% Cabernet Sauvignon from Eden Valley with 30% Shiraz from the Barossa Valley. The individual parcels were fermented separately in small stainless-steel fermenters, with some batches using submerged-cap techniques. Certain lots remained on skins for up to two weeks to build colour and structure. Following blending, the wine was matured for 18 months in French oak hogsheads, including both new and seasoned oak.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Deep crimson red

Aroma: Blackberry and plum with subtle sage, clove, earth and spice

Palate: Rich and structured, with concentrated dark fruit, liquorice and savoury spice supported by fine, integrated tannins

Finish: Long and composed, with lingering dark fruit, earthy spice and polished oak character
