Kalleske is a seventh-generation family-owned winery located in Greenock in the north-western Barossa Valley. The Kalleske family has been farming the property since 1853, making it one of the region's longest-established winegrowing families. Today, Kalleske is recognised as the oldest certified organic and biodynamic vineyard, farm and winery in the Barossa Valley. Clarry's GSM is named in honour of Clarence "Clarry" Kalleske, who tended the family vineyards from the late 1920s until the 1990s and played a significant role in preserving the estate's viticultural heritage.

Vintage Conditions

The 2024 Barossa Valley vintage was excellent. Winter and spring were drier and slightly warmer than average, resulting in earlier budburst, flowering and veraison. Summer brought timely rainfall and moderate temperatures without significant heat events, allowing balanced crop loads and steady ripening. Mild autumn conditions continued through harvest, producing fruit with outstanding flavour concentration and balance.

Winemaking Techniques

Clarry's is a blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro sourced from more than a dozen vineyard blocks across the Kalleske estate. The oldest Grenache vines date back to 1940. Each variety was fermented separately in open-top fermenters with hand pump-overs twice daily. After seven to fourteen days on skins, the wines were traditionally pressed and matured for approximately ten months in very old oak hogsheads to preserve freshness and fruit purity. The final blend was assembled for balance, texture and complexity. Certified organic, biodynamic and vegan friendly.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Radiant magenta

Aroma: Dark rose florals, musk, sweet spice and strawberry layered with dried herbs, forest floor and a subtle hint of choc mint

Palate: Medium-bodied and vibrant with juicy cherry and raspberry flavours complemented by savoury undertones, gentle tannins and polished texture from seasoned oak maturation

Finish: Long, balanced and satisfying with lingering fruit and spice notes
