Product Description
Lienert Vineyards is a family-owned winery with deep roots in the Barossa Valley, where the Lienert family has been growing grapes for generations. With a focus on estate-grown fruit and traditional Barossa winemaking, the winery produces small-batch wines that reflect the character of their vineyards and the region's renowned richness, balance and longevity.
Region and Vintage Conditions
Sourced from the highest point of the Lienert family estate in the Barossa Valley, the 2018 vintage provided excellent conditions for Mataro to develop depth, concentration and natural balance. Careful vineyard management and optimal ripening resulted in fruit with vibrant varietal character, refined tannins and bright acidity.
Source
The fruit is sourced exclusively from estate-grown Mataro vines planted on elevated Barossa Valley vineyards. Low-yielding vines and meticulous vineyard practices produce grapes with excellent concentration, structure and regional expression.
Winemaking
The grapes were hand-picked and fermented in small batches to preserve varietal purity and texture. Gentle extraction was followed by maturation in French oak hogsheads, adding subtle spice and complexity while allowing the fruit to remain the focal point of the wine.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Deep ruby red with vibrant purple hues.
Aroma: Red plum, blackberry and mulberry with notes of cracked pepper, dried herbs, liquorice and subtle earthy spice.
Palate: Medium to full-bodied with concentrated dark berry fruit, savoury spice and fine tannins. Layers of plum, black cherry and gentle oak create a balanced wine with impressive depth and texture.
Finish: Long and savoury with lingering dark fruit, spice and finely structured tannins.
