Winery Background

Lost Farm Wines is a cool-climate winemaking project by the Angove Family, established in 2018. Located in the Tamar Valley, Tasmania, the winery partners with a select group of exceptional grape growers to produce wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region. The cool climate of Tasmania is ideal for crafting outstanding Sauvignon Blanc, and Lost Farm aims to showcase the potential of this environment.

Vineyard and Vintage Conditions

The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from two vineyards situated in the Tamar Valley. The first is located just south of the township of Launceston. Glenbothy Vineyard has a north-easterly aspect and is characterised by dark volcanic clays. The second vineyard is located 50 minutes to the north of Launceston on the western banks of the Tamar River with distinctive alluvial clay. Both sites deliver Sauvignon Blanc that is bursting with freshness, acidity, and vibrant fruits. The 2023 vintage presented challenges from a cool, wet growing season that delayed ripening and harvest but also enhanced flavour depth and structure.

Winemaking

The grapes were harvested based on flavour ripeness in late March and then pressed to stainless steel before being lightly racked prior to fermentation. The wine was lightly fined and filtered prior to being bottled young and fresh. 

Tasting Notes

• Appearance: Brilliant water-like core with a greenish tinged outskirts.
  
  

• Aroma: Pungent mix of herbaceous gooseberries and passionfruit, followed by Granny Smith apple and prominent grassy asparagus-like notes.
  
  

• Palate: Zesty passionfruit, gooseberry, and lime flavours carry a racy feel across the palate with some asparagus and herbaceous grassy elements lingering underneath.
  
  

• Finish: Dry and zingy with crunchy acidity.
  
  

Food Pairing

This Sauvignon Blanc pairs beautifully with dishes such as grilled seafood, goat's cheese salad, or fresh oysters. Its bright acidity and vibrant flavours make it a versatile companion to a variety of cuisines.
