Winery Background

Moppity Vineyards began as a family‑run estate in 2002 under Jason and Alecia Brown in the cool, elevated Hilltops and Tumbarumba regions of Southern NSW. The Block range showcases distinct vineyard parcels, and Block C12C highlights Gamay from their Tumbarumba site, where these Burgundian-style grapes flourish.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

The 2023 season in Tumbarumba featured cool, elevated conditions with long, even ripening. Low yields brought concentrated, pure fruit from this granitic soil site, while overall Australian vintages presented lower yields amid La Niña weather patterns.

Winemaking Process

Block C12C grapes were wild‑fermented on skins for 14 days and then gently pressed into two‑ to three‑year‑old French barriques for nine months. The wine was bottled unfiltered and vegan‑friendly, with minimal intervention to preserve its freshness.

Tasting Notes

This medium‑bodied Gamay displays vibrant aromas of red cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry, rose petal, white pepper and earthy spice. The palate is crisp and juicy with supple tannins, herbal lift and an elegant, lingering finish. Notably it earned 93 points and was praised as “a little gem of a Gamay” for its finesse.

Food Pairing

Serve lightly chilled with duck rillettes, mushroom‑thyme tart, sesame‑crusted tuna, charcuterie, roast chicken or goat cheese beetroot salad. Its vibrant red fruit and savoury lift make it a flexible option at the table.
