Winery Background

Moppity Vineyards is a family‑run estate founded by Jason and Alecia Brown in 2002 in the cool, elevated Hilltops region of Southern NSW. The ‘Reserve’ label represents their top-tier wines crafted from mature, select parcels planted in 1973, showcasing varietal intensity and precision.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

The 2017 vintage delivered ideal ripening conditions: a slow growing season that allowed flavour concentration alongside retained natural acidity. Fruit was sourced from their two best estate parcels with low yields of around 1.5 tonnes per acre, yielding powerful and refined Cabernet fruit.

Winemaking Process

Hand‑picked fruit was shoot‑thinned, leaf‑thinned and optimally cropped. Fermentation included a cool 16‑day maceration followed by gentle extraction. The wine matured for 14 months in new and seasoned French barriques, with multiple rackings to enhance texture and pigment stability. Bottled under screwcap for clarity and freshness.

Tasting Notes

Deep in colour with aromas of cassis, plum and violet layered with graphite, spice and fine oak. The palate is powerful yet seamless with dark berry and black fruit entwined with subtle tobacco and cedar notes. Fine tannins and balanced acidity give structure and ageability, leading to a long finish marked by savoury finesse.

Food Pairing

Pairs beautifully with chargrilled beef or lamb, rosemary‑roasted poultry, aged cheddar or rich vegetarian dishes that include mushrooms or dark tomato sauces. Its richness and structure allow it to stand up to bold flavours.
