Winery Background

Moppity Vineyards is a family-run estate founded by Jason and Alecia Brown in 2002 in the cool, elevated Hilltops region of Southern NSW, celebrated for its elegant and expressive reds including their flagship Reserve Shiraz.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

The 2018 growing season brought warm summer ripening plus cool autumn nights, ideal for developing depth and retaining natural acidity. The hillside, free-draining soils and elevation gave grapes excellent concentration producing a powerful yet refined wine.

Winemaking Process

This Shiraz underwent careful fermentation including a proportion of whole-bunch fruit for texture and aromatic complexity. Gentle extraction and maturation in French oak barrels (both new and seasoned) over roughly 12 to 14 months built structure without overwhelming the vibrant fruit.

Tasting Notes

The wine displays deep crimson-purple hue and impressive clarity. Aromas of blackberry, plum and blueberry are layered with black pepper, clove, dark chocolate and touch of toasted oak. On the palate it is full-bodied and powerful yet refined, with concentrated dark fruit, fine-grained tannins, spice, espresso and smoky oak leading to a long structured finish of lingering intensity.

Food Pairing

Pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye, slow-cooked beef cheeks or lamb tagine. It also complements aged cheeses such as manchego or comté, and rich tomato-based dishes or dark chocolate and cherry desserts.
