Moppity Vineyards operates in the Hilltops region of New South Wales and is run by Jason and Alecia Brown. Its Lock & Key Shiraz is the entry label from their elevated vineyards and consistently earns praise for representing cool-climate richness at exceptional value.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

The 2022 vintage brought warm, sunny days balanced by cool nights in Hilltops, which supported gradual ripening and retention of natural acidity. The fruit comes from high-altitude blocks, where vines are managed for flavour concentration and freshness.

Winemaking Process

Grapes underwent a cold soak before a 12-day fermentation. Afterward, the wine rested in a mix of older French hogsheads and stainless-steel tanks. A small portion of Viognier (2 %) was included to lift the aromatics. Final bottling was under screwcap.

Tasting Notes

Bright purple with crimson hues. Aromas show summer berries, spice and florals with plums. The palate is medium-bodied yet seamless, layered with vibrant red fruit, floral tones and peppery spice. It is structured yet silky, with lovely length and balance.

Food Pairing

This Shiraz works well with grilled lamb or beef, rich tomato-based dishes, charred vegetables or soft aged cheeses. Its balance of spice, red fruit and structure makes it a food-friendly red.
