Moppity Vineyards is a family-run estate led by Jason and Alecia Brown, based in the Hilltops region of New South Wales. The Twelve Signs series offers straightforward varietal wines with clear character. Libra Merlot is sourced from estate-grown vines across Hilltops and Tumbarumba and brings varietal clarity with regional depth.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

The 2021 vintage featured warm days and cool nights in Hilltops, supporting steady ripening and fresh acidity. Fruit was harvested from blocks carefully managed to balance intensity and finesse while retaining Merlot’s varietal traits.

Winemaking Process

Grapes underwent cold soak before an 11-day fermentation, then rested in second-use French hogsheads and barriques to enhance structure. The approach is restrained, relying on fruit purity rather than heavy oak influence.

Tasting Notes

This Merlot shows generous flavours of plum, blackberry and blueberry, along with hints of chocolate and spice. The palate is rich and layered yet smooth, thanks to soft tannins and a velvety finish that balances depth with approachability.
