Pio Cesare is one of Piedmont's historic wine estates, founded in Alba in 1881. The family is renowned for producing classic Barolo and Barbaresco that combine traditional winemaking with carefully selected vineyard sites. Barbaresco Pio is an elegant expression of Nebbiolo, showcasing the freshness, perfume and structure associated with the appellation.

Vintage Conditions

The 2021 vintage was an excellent year for Nebbiolo in Piedmont. A long growing season encouraged slow and even ripening, allowing the grapes to develop concentrated fruit, mature tannins and aromatic complexity while retaining vibrant acidity and freshness.

Winemaking Techniques

Made from 100% Nebbiolo sourced from selected Barbaresco vineyards, the grapes are traditionally fermented with extended maceration to develop colour, flavour and structure. The wine is matured in oak, with large casks helping preserve the fruit and mineral character while allowing the tannins to soften and integrate.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Bright ruby red with garnet reflections

Aroma: Red cherry, raspberry and rose petals with hints of violet, liquorice and subtle spice

Palate: Elegant and medium to full-bodied, with juicy red fruit, vibrant acidity and refined tannins
