Pio Cesare's Ornato is a prestigious single-vineyard Barolo from Serralunga d'Alba, one of the most renowned communes in the Barolo region. The estate's Ornato vineyard is known for producing Nebbiolo with impressive concentration, structure and mineral character, making this one of Pio Cesare's most powerful Barolo expressions.

Vintage Conditions

The 2021 vintage provided excellent conditions for Nebbiolo, with a long and balanced growing season. The grapes developed ripe fruit and mature tannins while retaining the freshness and acidity needed to support the wine's substantial structure and long ageing potential.

Winemaking Techniques

Made from 100% Nebbiolo grown in the Ornato vineyard, the grapes are fermented in stainless-steel tanks before undergoing extended maceration. The wine is matured primarily in large Slavonian oak casks, with some French oak used to add subtle texture and complexity while maintaining the distinctive character of the Serralunga fruit.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Deep garnet red

Aroma: Black cherry, raspberry and violet with liquorice, tobacco, spice and earthy mineral notes

Palate: Powerful and concentrated, with layers of ripe red and dark fruit, vibrant acidity and firm yet polished tannins
