Winery Background

Red Claw is the second label of Yabby Lake Vineyard, established in 1998 on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. The winery has built a reputation for producing exceptional cool-climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with Red Claw offering a vibrant, approachable expression of the region’s distinct character.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

The 2022 season was long and cool, allowing Chardonnay grapes to ripen gradually while preserving fresh natural acidity. Mornington Peninsula’s maritime influence ensured excellent flavour development, producing fruit with purity, elegance, and a bright mineral backbone.

Winemaking Process

Fruit was hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed to capture delicate aromatics. The juice was fermented in a combination of French oak barrels (both new and seasoned) and stainless steel to balance texture and freshness. Partial malolactic fermentation and lees stirring added creaminess and complexity.

Tasting Notes

Pale straw with green hues. Aromas of white peach, citrus blossom, and subtle toasted hazelnut. The palate is fresh and lively, with stone fruit, grapefruit, and a fine line of acidity leading to a crisp, elegant finish.

Ideal with grilled prawns, roast chicken, creamy pasta dishes, or soft cheeses.
