Winery Background

Ross Hill Wines is a carbon-neutral, family-owned estate in Orange, New South Wales, managed by the Robson family. The Pinnacle Series showcases their most expressive vineyard sites and includes this focused Chardonnay release.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

The grapes for the 2023 Pinnacle Chardonnay are sourced from high-altitude vineyards across Orange, planted on basalt soils at 750–1,020 m elevation. The cool climate and extended ripening season helped the fruit develop intense varietal clarity while preserving natural acidity.

Winemaking Process

Approximately 25–30% of the wine was fermented in new and seasoned French oak barriques and hogsheads, with weekly lees stirring and full malolactic fermentation to build texture and richness. The remaining portion was stainless-steel fermented to preserve brightness. The wine was bottled under screwcap to maintain freshness.

Tasting Notes

Pale straw in colour with aromas of jasmine, yellow nectarine, melon, nougat and subtle almond meal. On the palate the wine is soft yet focused, showing peach, preserved citrus and gentle spice framed by fine acidity and a creamy mouthfeel. The finish is long and harmoniously balanced.

Food Pairing

Great with roast chicken or pork, creamy seafood dishes, mild cheeses or vegetable risottos. Its texture and detail also suit lightly spiced Asian-style dishes.
