WINERY INFORMATION:

Shaw + Smith was established with the vision to make exciting and refined wines exclusively from Adelaide Hills that rank amongst the best wines of Australia. It is the brainchild of cousins Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith, both of whom had wanted to start manufacturing and selling wine together for a long time. They finally realised their dream in 1989 after having a long Sunday lunch and deciding to pursue their goal.

TASTING NOTES:

The 2018 Shaw + Smith Balhannah Shiraz is a great contradiction to the savoury, herbal 2017, but no less enjoyable. The 2018 is richer and brighter of fruit, with a cascading flow of forest berries and plums deftly graced by white pepper. Oak is present as a fine seasoning, implementing a very slight edge of toasty/smoky cedar to the mix and giving its tannic imprint underlying flavour. Another superlative example of a modern, cool climate Australian Shiraz from Shaw + Smith’s Balhannah vineyard.
