Winery Overview
Located in Lyndoch at the southern end of the Barossa Valley, Six Gates is a boutique family-run winery renowned for crafting small-batch, single-vineyard wines. The estate’s vines grow on red-clay soils over limestone, gently sloping and sun-exposed, creating ideal conditions for producing Shiraz of exceptional depth, balance and intensity.
Region & Vintage Conditions
The 2019 vintage in the Barossa Valley was marked by a warm, dry growing season with low yields, resulting in highly concentrated fruit. The “Block 4” vineyard at Six Gates performed superbly, producing small berries with rich flavour and fine tannin structure, the hallmarks of a classic Barossa Shiraz vintage.
Winemaking Techniques
Hand-picked fruit from the single Block 4 site was fermented in small open fermenters to ensure maximum control and flavour extraction. The wine was matured in a combination of French and American oak, adding layers of spice and texture while allowing the purity of fruit to shine through. Traditional methods and minimal intervention reflect Six Gates’ philosophy of letting the vineyard speak for itself.
