Product Description
Ulithorne is a small batch McLaren Vale producer with roots dating back to 1950, when the original estate vineyard was planted in the Blewitt Springs sub region of South Australia. Known for crafting premium, site driven wines from carefully selected vineyard parcels, Ulithorne focuses on low intervention winemaking that highlights regional character, concentration and texture. The Frux Frugis Shiraz 2018 reflects the winery’s bold and expressive house style, delivering richness, structure and depth from old vine fruit.
Region and Vintage Conditions
Sourced from old vines in Blewitt Springs, one of McLaren Vale’s most respected sub regions, this Shiraz benefits from sandy soils over clay that help produce wines with both richness and aromatic lift. The 2018 vintage delivered excellent ripening conditions across McLaren Vale, allowing for concentrated fruit flavours, balanced tannins and impressive depth. The warm, dry season resulted in a powerful yet polished Shiraz with excellent ageing potential.
Winemaking Techniques
Fruit was hand harvested from old vines and fermented in small batches with 15 days of skin contact to maximise colour, flavour and structure. Following pressing, the wine was matured in a combination of new and seasoned French oak hogsheads for 12 months. The finest barrels were then selected for blending before undergoing an additional 12 months of oak maturation, adding further complexity, texture and refinement.
