Experience the Old World Characters with Wildwood Wines

The Wildwood vineyards lie at the very heart of the Kunde Family Estate. It is an impressive 1000 - acre area established by Louis Kunde in 1904. Imported cuttings from famous and well - known producers, Chateaux Margaux and Lafite Rothschild were brought and planted in this vineyard. The setting up of the Wildwood Vineyard and the establishment of the winery marked the beginning of a now – fifth - generation legacy. Upon the demise of Louis in 1922, both the vineyard and the winery were passed on to his son Arthur ‘Big Boy’ Kunde. Big Boy was the true saviour of the Wildwood name and he managed to keep the business running even during the perilous times of Prohibition and World War II.
The Wildwood Vineyards are located towards the South side of the huge Kunde estate. Rocky soil prevails over this area, which is an excellently - draining soil and dries up quite early in the growing season. This tends to result in smaller berries and low yields. The Chardonnay manufactured from this region has a little ‘old world’ character to it. It has a bold flavour of green apple, which is perfectly balanced by the mild acidity and structured minerality of the wine. The Shiraz produced by this estate is medium bodied with delectable aromas of dark berry fruits and spices. It tastes of plums and spices and also soft tannins. These two with few others are a must try from the Wildwood estate.
