Thus, after about a decade of living in the region, Johann and his wife decided to purchase a 30-hectare piece of land along the banks of Jacob’s Creek. Little did they know at the time, that what they had started would eventually become a revolution, shaping the course of wine history for generations to come. With Barossa’s first ever commercial vineyard being established in 1847, a small winery and underground cellar soon followed in 1850. Johann’s son Gustav took over the family business and revamped it as G Gramp & Sons. He was followed by his successors Louis Gramp, and then Fred Gramp. But it was Johann’s great-grandson Colin who reinvented the style of Australian white wines by introducing new and innovative technologies to the estate.

The year 1976 marked the birth of the Jacob's Creek wine brand. A beautiful and unique 1973 vintage blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon from McLaren Vale and Barossa Valley, fused with Malbec grapes from Padthaway, was crafted this year and officially released under the label of “Jacob’s Creek”. The brand instantly gained widespread popularity, and it was not long before wine enthusiasts outside of Australia began to crave for a taste of the enticing Jacob’s Creek wines. The United Kingdom was the first to receive this blessing, with Jacob’s Creek wines being exported internationally for the first time in 1984. From this point on, there has been no looking back for Jacob’s Creek. It has now made a name for itself amongst the biggest wine tycoons of the international wine industry.
