- Along with being world’s most loved alcoholic drink, wine also comes with some brilliant health benefits. Recent scientific studies reveal that moderate drinking of wine (1 to 2 glasses a day) reduces the risk of cardiac diseases, Alzheimer’s and stroke
- However, excessive drinking might lead to digestive tract ailments etc. So, limit your wine intake to maximum 1-2 glasses a day
- When it comes to serving wine, it is best to serve in a glass that has a slightly curved rim. This helps keep aromas in the glass. Thin glasses with fine rims make wine drinking even more pleasurable
- While tasting wine, experts swirl their glass as this way the wine is encouraged to release its aromas well. To avoid spilling while swirling, the glass is filled not more than one - third.
- If you get confused while pairing food with your wine, just remember these basics:
- Rich and heavy meals are paired with rich and full bodied wines. Similarly, lighter foods pair well with light bodied wines.
- Red wine is usually served with red meats.
- White wine goes well with most white meats and fish.
- Sweet wines pair well with desserts
- If you are serving different wines with different courses of a meal, serve lighter wines first and then graduate towards the heavier ones. Many people also follow this order: White wine before red, young before the old and dry wine before sweet.
- Right temperature for serving wine is equally important.
- Sparkling wines should be served ice cold at approximately 40 to 50 degrees whereas white should be served cold at 45- 50 degrees.
- For red wines, the ideal serving temperature would be around 50- 60 degree Fahrenheit.
- Another important thing to keep in mind is to hold your wine glass by the stem instead of the bowl as the heat from your hand can increase the temperature of the wine in the glass and spoil its taste.
