Turkey Flat Cabernet Sauvignon – Rich, Ripe and Refreshing
February 04, 2016
Turkey Flat Wine Estate was founded in year 1847 when a refugee of Silesia by the name of Johann Frederick August Fiedler bought some property adjacent to Bethany Creek and planted Shiraz grape vines in the lush alluvial soils. Fiedler was Pastor August Kavel’s brother - in - law, the great hero who brought German emigrants to the Barossa Valley region in Australia. This was one of the first portions of the land to be surveyed in the area and was named so in honour of the flocks of native bush turkeys.
The current location of the Turkey Flat winery and vineyards is the famous Section One property situated in the centre of Barossa Valley. In the mid - 1860s, the Schulz family became the owners and caretakers of the estate. The much - appreciated Turkey Flat wines are crafted from individual vineyard estates. Section One vineyard produces lovely Grenache, Shiraz and little parcels of Viognier, Mourvedre and Rousanne vintage after vintage. The elegant and beloved Cabernet Sauvignon variety is planted on a small and beautiful vineyard on the banks of the Bethany Creek. This wine is one of the best Cabernet Sauvignons made in Australia. Turkey Flat Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 vintage is a true delight. It has an appealing bouquet giving off the tomato and black cherry aromas. The palate is full of juicy fruits, oak and blackcurrant flavours interwoven by fine and subtle tannins. Do try Turkey Flat wines and experience the pleasures yourself.
