Your wedding plans & activities can really be stressful and time consuming especially when you’re on a budget. Here are some tips to help you decide on your wine needs for your big day!

Your Budget

Consider allocating from ½ to ¾ of a bottle of wine for each of your adult guest. And of course don’t forget the sparkling wine for your big toast. Normally, you get 4-5 glasses of wine per bottle. With this ratio, you now can estimate how many bottles of wine are required for your wedding day.

If you are going to offer other drinks like spirits and beer, this can affect the quantity of wine you need. Some will choose beer or spirits if it’s available.

From the total bottle of wines required, put a greater percentage on white wine, though in winter you may opt for more reds.

Traditionally, weddings call for Champagne as it is usually associated with romance. However, if your budget is tight, you may opt for a sparkling wine instead. There are a lot of affordable sparkling wines from online wine stores as these are sourced directly from the wineries.

Corkage

Your wedding venue may let you supply your own wines with a corkage fee. In most cases, this will work better in your budget than to purchase wines directly from your venue.

Most wine stores, online or brick & mortar, will offer discounts when you purchase in bulk. So make sure you contact your wine merchant and ask about this.

Choosing the Best Wines

Generally, avoid wines with extreme flavours. Remember that different kinds of people will be attending your wedding day. So make sure you stay away from too much dryness, sweetness, acidity, body, and tannins.

Take also into consideration the foods that will be served. For example, spicy foods won’t go well with high tannin reds while a white wine with high acidity will be perfect for Smoked Salmons.

Finally, it would always help to ask for suggestions from trusted friends and respectable wine merchants.
