What is there in a Australian Wine Show?
May 01, 2013
Australia has become one of the world's biggest wine producers. Because of this, there are regular wine shows all over the country. The truth is, wine show approach in Australia is known as more sophisticated in comparison to other countries that produce wines.
Wine shows are useful because they present individuals with information regarding the quality as well as true worth for money. A specific wine brand to win a trophy or medal in these events establishes its excellent quality to the expert and knowledgeable judges.
The Way it Began
Wine shows in famous Australia started as an element of local farming shows. The popular Australian wine shows are the Royal Melbourne Wine Show which started in 1848. There was also the Rutherglen Wine Show that was founded in 1880. Before, over a hundred of wines participated in the show as stated by Hubert de Castella, a wine show judge. Currently, there are more than a thousand of participants in a significant wine show. There is an estimated three thousand five hundred wine entries from Melbourne alone while Rutherglen draws in over 2,600 entries. These wines must be fantastic and exceptional to be able to receive a medal.
Advantages to Individuals
This particular type of event rewards the consumer in a couple of ways. First of all, customers are capable of making a well- guided choice based on an impartial evaluation of the wines. Consumers learn to associate the performance of a certain brand of wine to its price. A wine that earned a medal is a manifestation of its quality. A regional show's minor medal is a huge addition to the wine. Australian wine show judges adhere to high standards and will only grant gold medal awards when they trust the wine craftsmanship is deserving of it. In any other case, they can only grant a minor medal award or not give anything at all.
Another benefit of these wine shows is the assurance that wine producers continue to strive to improve their products. Since these wine shows are regularly conducted, wine producers never stop to look for ways to enhance the taste, palate and overall performance of their products to be able to achieve awards.
Advantages to Wine Producers
For the wine producers, these wine show events boost their sales especially so if their brand wins a medal. Wine consumers are most likely to purchase brands with award stickers rather than those which do not have one. A bottle of wine with consistent awards prove that it is of high quality which consequently allures consumers to buy wines.
Additionally, wine producers who regularly participate in these events get the chance to taste their competitors’ wines during the tasting session. This will give wine makers an idea on how to further improve their products.
Over all, Australian wine shows are being conducted to maintain the high quality of its locally produced wines. It also encourages wine makers who gained awards to help their other colleagues in the wine industry to do better next time.
Evidently, a wine show is a healthy competition to build trust and camaraderie between producers and consumers, and brotherhood among wine makers.
