Barossa (or Barossa zone) is a designated wine zone based in central South Australia region. Barossa wine region has two sub-regions, Barossa Valley and Eden Valley, and received appellation as Australian Geographical Indications on December 27, 1996. The zone is located just outside the north-east of the Adelaide metropolitan area. Its terrain is made of sandy, clay loam based soils. More than 550 grape growing families are based in Barossa, some of them now into the sixth generation of farming. More than 170 wine companies use the grapes provided by these families to produce lip smacking wines.
