A part of the Big Rivers zone, Murray Darling is Australia's second largest wine region. Ever since the first grape vines were planted here in 1888, Murray Darling wine region has continued to produce exciting and innovative wines. The vast region is spread across 217 miles, covering the Murray River in north-western Victoria and western New South Wales.

Hot days with long sunshine hours and low humidity prevail throughout the region, along with seasonal rainfall. The climate here is suitable for growing Chardonnay, Shiraz, and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties. Having soil unique to the Murray River system, the region features calcareous earth, which ranges from loam and sandy loam to brown and red-brown loamy sand. With the surface being neutral to moderately alkaline, the soil supports vigorous growth and high grape yield.
