Swan District wine region is the oldest wine region of Western Australia. The region has its viticulture history dating back to 1829. At present, the region is home to the state's largest winery, and some of the finest wines of Western Australia come from this very region.

Having a warm to hot Mediterranean climate, the Swan District is very dry during ripening and harvest, with most of the rain falling during winter and spring. The region’s soils are typically young alluvial soils and have an excellent moisture retention capacity. The temperatures here are extremely high during January. Most of the region observes low relative humidity and high sunshine hours during the growing season, with south-westerly sea breezes providing relief from the heat.
