This subregion comes within the Mount Lofty Ranges wine zone and received appellation as an AGI in October 1998. Lenswood is known for its cool climate, misty and wet conditions. The region receives an average annual rainfall of 40 inches (1016mm), with temperatures mostly staying below 65°F. The region's special mesoclimate is best suited to early maturing varieties such as Riesling, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Merlot. The high natural acidity retained in the grapes produce wine styles that are crisp, fresh, fruit-forward (as Lenswood grows apples), and with plenty of varietal aromas.
