The North West Victoria zone possesses similar traits as of South Australia's Riverland wine region. The zone got registered as an Australian Geographical Indication (AGI) in May 1996. It is one of the major agricultural lands of Victoria and has also earned a reputation for its viticulture and wine production practices. The Murray River confluences with the Darling River in North West Victoria. The generous irrigation sources of this zone, especially the Murray River and Swan River, provide high yielding production all year round. The first wine produced in this region was Lindemans Bin 65 Chardonnay - which is still one of the most well-known and loved wines across the world. The famous wine company Yellow Tail sources some of its grapes from this zone. The zone covers some parts of the Murray Darling and Swan Hill regions.
