Spanning through a long history of winemaking and viticulture, Granite Belt is regarded among the highest wine regions in Australia. Located around the town of Stanthorpe, Queensland, the region’s vineyards are located more than 1000 metres above the sea level. Granite Belt is also known for its sub zero winter nights, spring frosts, and relatively lower humidity. The peak summer temperatures of the region are moderated by sub-tropical influences of monsoon. The late growing season rainfall of 519 mm also contributes to the region's unusual climate.

As the name suggests, the Granite Belt is a huge granite intrusion which is approximately 200 million years old. A stepped plateau of hills and plains, the region is based on Permian sedimentary rocks comprising granites and Tertiary basalts. Most of the Granite Belt wines are made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Verdelho, and Viognier grapes that are widely produced throughout the region.
