Blackwood Valley wine region is named after Blackwood River which is the longest continually flowing river of Western Australia. Situated on the same latitude as Margaret River, it shares many similar climatic characteristics such as wet and cool winters, with warm and dry summers. Since 1976, Blackwood Valley has been a popular region for producing wines of exquisite distinction and class.

Blackwood Valley receives an average rainfall of about 219 mm which favours many grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Shiraz. The soils, being a part of Darling Plateau system, are well-drained, gravelly loam on the divides with yellow soils and red soils on the slopes of the valley, all perfect for viticulture.
