West Australian South East Coastal zone got its Australian Geographical Indication on 1 May 1996. Just like its very lengthy name, the region is spread across an even more impressively large area. The area enclosed within this zone includes all of the Shires of Gnowangerup, Ravensthorpe, Jerramungup, Esperance and all other adjoining islands. Despite its large area coverage, the region is home to only one winery, Dalyup River Estate. Established in 1987, it is also arguably called the most remote winery in Australia. This only winery of the West Australian South East Coastal zone came into limelight when it won the best wine trophy for its Shiraz at the Qantas Wine Show held in 1999 in Western Australia.
