The Moscato (or Muscat Blanc grape variety as it is commonly known) originated in the Piedmont region of Italy. It is a refreshing and easy drinking white wine which is a popular choice among newbie wine enthusiasts, or seasoned ones with a taste for lighter styled wines. In most Italian regions, it is still known by its full name – Moscato D Asti named after the Moscato grape and the Italian town of Asti. Moscato wines are straw yellow hued with occasional gold strokes. They exhibit marvellous perfume like aromatics of honeysuckle, orange blossom, green grapes, almonds and citrus on the nose while the light bodied palate displays an attractive array of ripe and juicy apple, pear, peach and apricot flavours. The low alcohol content and fizzy characters of the wine enhance the deliciousness and sweetness so that it can be served as a dessert too.
