De Bortoli Winery offers a range of excellent wine varietals that will surely make every celebration or every simple unwinding session at home very special. The Gulf Station collection has a lot of stories to tell. It was in 1864 in the era of early Australian settlement when the original Gulf Station was leased by the Bell family. Located in the heart of Yarra Valley, the piece of land was originally known in the 19th century as a pastoral holding. Also called as the “Summer Paddock”, the site of the present De Bortoli Winery housed a large dam surrounded by abundant greenery. The dam still exists while the pastures have been converted to breathtaking De Bortoli Winery.
Here, low yielding vines are well maintained in the excellent vineyards to produce estate-grown fruits that are of concentrated flavours and approachable characters. One of their most precious ranges, the Gulf Station presents three delectable red varietals that you will surely enjoy at any moment: Shiraz Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir.
De Bortoli Gulf Station Shiraz Viognier has a luxurious bright red colour with shades of vibrant purple. The bouquet is filled with fragrant berry fruits with lifted aromas of refreshing spices. The palate on the other side is built by an elegant fusion of rich and spicy fruits with generous dark berries. Ripe tannins round the well-structured palate to a supple mouth-feel.This dry wine is a perfect balance of 95% Shiraz and 5% Viognier with the latter adding vibrancy and lift to the more intense Shiraz. The wine may be enjoyed right after release while five to seven years of careful cellaring will reward to a more integrated red wine structure.
De Bortoli Gulf Station Cabernet Sauvignon is a dry and medium-bodied single varietal wine with a deep red colour and lively shades of purple. After two weeks of fermentation on skins, the wine is matured in French oak to add complexity to the structure. The result is an aromatic and great tasting delight with subtle leafy characters and bright fruits on the nose. The palate is layered with rich dark and sweet red fruits, complemented by persistent leafy notes, silky smooth tannins and perfectly balanced acids.
De Bortoli Gulf Station Pinot Noir is matured in French oak for 9 months with 20% of the fruit left in whole bunches to add velvety smooth tannins and lifted aromas. The wine displays a bright and consistent red colour with translucent garnet shades on the edges. The fragrant bouquet is filled with sweet red fruits and elegant violets. On the palate, red and black cherries create elegant and evenly textured characters with smooth tannins and light oak leading the flavours to a rich and deep finish.
