d'Arenberg was established in 1912 by Joseph Osborn, who purchased a property on Osborn Road in McLaren Vale and began making wine from the region's rich soils and warm, maritime climate. The name d'Arenberg comes from the Osborn family's European heritage, connecting to the noble d'Arenberg family. Now in its fourth generation, the estate is led by Chester Osborn - Chief Winemaker, Managing Director, and one of Australian wine's most recognisable personalities.
Chester's approach to winemaking is anything but conventional. Under his watch, d'Arenberg now grows more than 40 different grape varieties and works with over 50 growers across McLaren Vale, producing a portfolio that is as diverse as it is distinctive. The wine names alone - Dead Arm, Footbolt, Hermit Crab, Coppermine Road, Lucky Lizard - speak to the playful, exploratory spirit that Chester has brought to every vintage.
In 2018, Chester's long-held dream became reality with the opening of the d'Arenberg Cube - a striking five-storey cube-shaped building perched above the McLaren Vale vineyards.
