Henschke Wines has been shaping Australian wine since 1868, when the Henschke family first planted vines in the Eden Valley. Six generations on, the winery is still family-run, with a philosophy built on minimal-intervention winemaking, sustainable viticulture, and championing single-vineyard sites some of which are among the oldest producing vineyards in the world.

1. Who owns Henschke wine? +
Henschke Wines is a family-owned winery, led by the Henschke family. Currently managed by fifth-generation winemaker Stephen Henschke and viticulturist Prue Henschke, with sixth-generation family members also adding to the winemaking business.
2. What is the best Henschke wine? +
Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz is widely considered the best Henschke wine and one of Australia's greatest wines overall. Hill of Grace is produced from Shiraz vines planted in the 1860s near the Gnadenberg Church in the Eden Valley. It was first made in 1958 by Cyril Henschke. In 2005, it was classified as 'Exceptional' by Langton's Classification of Australian Wine - the highest tier in that classification. James Halliday has awarded it 99-100 points across multiple vintages. The Keyneton Euphonium and Mount Edelstone are also considered among the finest wines Henschke produces, with Mount Edelstone classified Excellent' by Langton's.
3. Why is Henschke Hill of Grace so expensive? +
Hill of Grace is produced in incredibly tiny quantities from a small 8-acre vineyard that was planted in the 1860s. It is extremely sought-after across the world because of its extraordinary quality, historical significance, rarity, and constant glowing reviews (typically receiving scores between 95 and 100 points).
4. What happened to Cyril Henschke? +
Cyril Alfred Henschke was the fifth-generation winemaker who transformed Henschke from a bulk fortified wine producer into one of Australia's most prestigious estates. He made the first Mount Edelstone single-vineyard Shiraz in 1952 and the first Hill of Grace Shiraz in 1958 - two of the most significant decisions in Australian wine history. Cyril Henschke died in 1979. His son Stephen Henschke took over as winemaker, joined by his wife Prue as viticulturist. The Cyril Henschke Cabernet Sauvignon wine is named in his honour.
