Regarded as the best medium-sized red wine producer in Australia, Henschke has gone from strength to strength over the past three decades under the guidance of winemaker Stephen and viticulturist Prue Henschke. The red wines fully capitalise on the very old, low-yielding, high quality vines and are superbly made with sensitive but positive use of new small oak. Hill of Grace is second only to Penfolds Grange as Australia's red wine icon. A founding member of Australia's First Families of Wine. The Henschke family has been making wine since Johann Christian Henschke planted a small vineyard at Keyneton in 1862. The Eden Valley region was established by Charles Crane in 1866 around the nearby North Para River system and is home to Henschke iconic vineyards – Hill of Grace and Mount Edelstone. The Barossa Valley region, from which Henschke sources some of its fruit, is often referred to as the valley floor.
