Pretty Good

: The Block 1A Chardonnay was produced from six different clones that experienced a near-perfect vintage, with the vines enjoying warm days and cool nights. The 5.7 hectares of vineyard land on which the grapes were grown sits on ancient soils mostly composed of gravel with limestone and calcium silicates with a sprinkling of ferrous pebbles all throughout the area. The resulting wine has a bright pale straw colour with green hues, and the nose is a lifted bouquet of papaya, orange blossom and ripe peach. The crisp palate features ripe tangerine and nectarine flavours. This wine is textured, flinty and pure with touches of refined oak. Enjoy this drink with poultry or a light lamb dish and salads with macadamia nut.

WINERY INFORMATION:

Owner John Edwards was originally the winemaker and face of Starve Dog Lane, a joint venture with Hardy Wine Company. Earlier in 1992, he and his wife Helen had already founded Ravenswood Lane in Adelaide Hills and had decided to establish their own vineyard there. When Hardy’s was sold in 2005, John decided to go solo in his wine ventures. Together with their sons Marty and Ben, John and Helen established The Lane Vineyard. To date, they have produced three wine series: Heritage Wines, a homage to John and Helen’s fathers; Occasion Wines, their brand for fine, structured and complex wines; and Block Series, stylish fruit-driven wines that reflect the spirit of the region.
