Craggy Gimblett Gravels Vineyard Chardonnay 2017 Hawkes Bay - 12 Bottles

Availability: Out of stock

Pretty Good

Pale lemon straw. Bright nose of ripe apple, peach, freshly cracked river stones and the finest of oak. Wonderful concentration of rich stone fruits with citrus like acidity and good phenolic tension to carry the wine long towards the dry finish. Fleshy on the palate but with lovely integration of ripe fruit flavours, fine acidity and complex yeast derived textural notes. The finish is long and dry. Beautiful aromatics of ripe stonefruits meld with a floral blossom lift and roasted nuts for a very classical nose. Recommended Cellaring: 1-7 years from vintage Food Pairing Poultry dishes

WINERY INFORMATION

Vineyard

In 1876 the floods in New Zealand’s region of Hawkes Bay turned some rivers into the land. After the floods subsided the Ngaruroro River had changed its course and a vista of gravel was left behind on a latitude of 39.2S in a warm sun-filled valley, greened lightly with spring rains. Some were farmed by the Gimblett family, but by most, it was seen as a useless wasteland, only fit to quarry. So a quarry began….almost until the local vignerons saved the land for wine.

Winemaking

The Gimblett Gravels Chardonnay is made using very traditional winemaking techniques involving wild yeasts and the use of French oak barriques. The resulting wine is always finely flavoured and softly textured with a linear elegance that allows the wine to retain its freshness.
