WINERY INFORMATION

Vineyard

In 1876 the floods in New Zealand’s region of Hawkes Bay turned some rivers into the land. After the floods subsided the Ngaruroro River had changed its course and a vista of gravel was left behind on a latitude of 39.2S in a warm sun-filled valley, greened lightly with spring rains. Some were farmed by the Gimblett family, but by most, it was seen as a useless wasteland, only fit to quarry. So a quarry began….almost until the local vignerons saved the land for wine.

Winemaking

The blending of these different parcels combines to create a wine that is truly distinct and appealing. The vines originate from a Heritage clone of Syrah brought to New Zealand approximately 150 years ago. It produces a wine with an aromatic lift of floral and pepper aromatics and a lushness and denseness on the palate combined with fresh and fine natural acidity.
